June was an absolute blast at Blyth Park with the sailing season now in full swing. The waters were alive with countless boats and a host of visiting sailors, making for an action-packed month. By the end of June, we had wrapped up five series with four more underway, offering a variety of results and excitement for everyone involved.
A fleet of five Darts ventured north to compete in the Scottish Nationals at the Royal Tay Yacht Club. The event was marked by strong winds exceeding 30 knots, a few breakages, and plenty of revelry. Ellis Stonehouse led the RYYC team, finishing 3rd overall and tying on points with the second place, only missing out due to countback results. Right behind him was Joe, securing a commendable 4th place. A big congratulations to John England for clinching 1st place on Handicap – a brilliant achievement, John!
June also featured the second of the Hurricane 5.9 travelling events, with Kev and Ellis teaming up to represent RYYC at Starcross SC, putting in a stellar performance.
Cadet Topper sailing continues to thrive on Saturdays, with our young sailors improving and having a great time. Convincing your daughter she can handle a topper herself can be a challenge, but it might just be the perfect inspiration for a parent & child race during regatta week.
We were also delighted to welcome back Otley Sailing Club for a weekend visit to Blyth Park. The campsite was buzzing with campers and BBQs, providing a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new sailing enthusiasts.
Looking forward to more thrilling sailing and camaraderie in the coming months!
