Discover the Thrill of the Dart 18 Catamaran!
At the Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club, we are proud to host one of the most exciting and family-friendly sailing experiences: the Dart 18 Catamaran. This 18-foot vessel is all about pure, exhilarating fun on the water. Conceived in the early 1970s in southwest England, the Dart 18 quickly became a beloved staple in the sailing community, with its first National Championships held in 1977. By 1991, it was attracting 300 boats to its first World Championships in Abersoch, Wales.
A Rich History at Blyth Park
Dart 18s made their debut at Blyth Park in the early ’90s, swiftly transforming the sailing scene. Initially, the popular boats were the 16ft Condor and the Hurricane 4.9 & 5.9. However, the Dart 18’s ease of handling and competitive edge soon saw it rise to prominence, with cadets and seasoned sailors alike mastering it and dominating local races. Today, the Dart 18 remains the largest fleet at the RYYC, a testament to its enduring appeal and we have the largest fleet of Dart 18’s in the North of England.
Perfect for Families and Newcomers
The Dart 18 is an ideal choice for sailors of all skill levels. Its simple one-design construction makes it easy to rig, repair, and sail. Whether you’re a complete novice or a seasoned sailor aiming for national or international competitions, the Dart 18 offers a fantastic platform to hone your racing skills.
